7 habits of a highly effective Sketch Comedy Writer

Number 1
Be Observative
Always be out on the look-out for new ideas. Take situations from your everyday life and try to make them humorous. After a while of this, you'll realize its not that hard. Plenty of insanely funny stuff happens everyday, its just often overlooked. What helps me is to keep a journal of my daily, and even seemingly boring experiences. When i look back, i can remember those things, from a more "detached" persepctive, and many times find just the right thing to add in humor, and a sketch idea is born!

Number 2
Be constant Even if you have all the good ideas in the world, a sketch doesn't work unless you write it. Duh. I guess there isn't a whole lot to be said about this one. I usually try to write at everyday, in order to keep the habit up.

Number3
Be resourceful
Sketch Ideas can come from almost anywhere. Let's say that along with writing, you have a intense passion for...old country and western movies. Well, combine the two! Chances are there's a very good sketch idea somewhere in there. Taking a class in famous belgium painters? Use those resources as background for more sketch ideas. Even watching comedy shows such as snl, and Kith can stir up more ideas. rememeber:Sketch ideas can come from anywhere.

Number 4
Be Diverse
This one goes along with number 3. WE've already established that sketch ideas are almost everywhere. Well, go out and get them! Try new things, get invloved, the more you do, the more background you'll have for sketch ideas.

Number 5
Be involved
