~Children of a Dying Day~

As dawn draws near we lift our heads, we're waiting
to greet the sun, we turn our weary eyes
but what we see instead is only darkness,
a threat'ning shadow rising black to veil the skies

Look to the east, this darkness without mercy
devours the world, the land is lost in gloom,
we shiver for the plains of ancient honour
have turned into a deadly field of doom

No sign of hope will shine in death and battle
and in this darkest night we're left alone,
dark blood keeps flowing, minutes feel like hours
and every hour past the shadow's ever grown

We can but stand and watch, endure the torture,
the time draws near, it's either rise or fall,
heavy the burden that we carry into battle
for on our shoulders lies the fate, the fate of all

In death's embrace our failing eyes seek heaven,
the sun is dark, a voice is mourning far away:
Oh weep, oh weep for there is no salvation
for us, the children of a dying day

The Escape

The night was dark and moonless
The stars were hiding too.
It was the perfect night
For a thief bold and true.

The young figure snuck away
From the gate so swiftly,
That anyone who noticed it
Would forget it quickly.

The young thief smiled in glee
He just might be finally free!
Away from the training and all of that,
Back to where his life wasn't an act.

He moved quickly toward his old place,
His feet setting a fast pace.
He didn't need any light
For his journey on this night.

Soon he came upon the hideout
He easily avoided the lookout.
But alas! He was luckless tonight,
For Sparhawk was waiting for him, all right.

Talen sighed and hung his head
His heart filling with growing dread.
But Sparhawk smiled and gave him a wink,
He knew why Talen was trying to sneak.

Tomorrow was to be the wedding
Of he and Princess Danae.
Talen had had no say in the matter
So he was trying to sneak away.

Beautiful Star

Beautiful star, visit me hither.
I need thee, now, to heal my wounds.
Weep with me, for me, and cleanse my spirit,
And let all the pain be washed away.

Beautiful star, lend my thy light,
To hold as a beacon, to knowledge eternal.
Lighten my heart, when times are of evil,
By thy beautiful face and shining eyes.

Beautiful star, I kneel in thy presence,
An image of divinity I can never become.
With thy kiss, free me from sorrow,
With thy love, free me from pain.

Beautiful star, shoulder my burden,
Stay with me forever, to live in the light.
With thy voice, chase away fear,
With thy smile, my heart overflows.

Beautiful star, I love thee most deeply,
You are my sun, my moon, and my sky.
You hold the key, to true love forever.
My beautiful star, my beautiful girl.

"The Escape" was created for a contest held at the Eddings Chronicles forum. It was the winning poem, and it is relating to The Elenium/Tamuli series by David Eddings.
