Love or Desire?

By Meredith

Darkness I see as the blood red petals fall upon the solid soil. His eyes are as blue as ice and as warm as summer. It was as if winter didn’t want to come. His radiance showed within a single glimpse of what looked like a smile. Desire wore upon his face…or was it true love? Neither I knew well. We walked for what seemed like eternity. Is it love he holds in his heart? I ask myself. Or is it Desire? We are no longer in the forest but a range of trees still holds its ground. A beautiful waterfall with a water running cold in its lake. I am at the edge of a cliff at the height of the fall. I take off my knee high boots and roll up my pants to the length of my calves, although it would do no good. I rolled up my green sleeves to my elbows and looked back at him. He has already done the same. The soft soil beneath my feet felt comforting in an unusual way that could not be explained. This was his test. The test of Courage. Was he the one? Was his love true or was it desire? Upon his smile I jumped. He had not reacted in fear or horror but rather in courage and love, for as soon as my feet left the ground, so did his. My love…my life had passed without even knowing of this test’s existence. His hand grasped mine as if day flew into night. But still the question haunts me…is his love true or is it just desire? His courage may be true but is his love? My doubts haunt me even in death for I must live again to find he who is my true lover. I may be an elder of the Guardians but he is the youngest of the mortals. He is the love of which I seek, for he is forever hidden until the end…
