What is Retrograde Amnesia?
Patient does not remember the accident or previous events
It is afflicted by a trauma to the head
Damage to a component of the cognitive memory system results in a disconnection of retrieval mechanisms from storage therefore causing R.A.
The components of the cognitive memory system include medial temporal lobe, medial thalamus, mamillary bodies and basal forebrain structures. Damage to any of these can produce amnesia.
