Religious Faith Equals Insanity

Look, it’s time to get one thing straight. Religious people are wackos. Got it? That’s just the bottom line.

Now before you get all riled up and start wishing mountains of fire to come crashing down on my head, let me make one thing clear. I’M NOT AGAINST MORALITY! Religion and morality are not synonymous terms! Can you get that through your fat head? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made some comment against some component of religion that I don’t agree with (child rape comes to mind) only to have some indignant, stuffy asshole get all righteous with the attitude that I should be willing to accept the negative parts of religion for the sake of the moral guidance it provides to the majority.

No, this is not a case of take the good with the bad. Religion is a case of take the crazy with the bad, and I’m sick and tired of it.

But let me just make my case. You have these massive groups of people who walk around claiming that the omnipotent creator of the universe once came to Earth in the form of a man and wrote a book rent with inconsistencies before allowing himself to be tortured and killed?

You actually believe that? That it happened? That it was the one God, blah, blah, blah? Are you fucking out of your mind?

Sorry, I already know the answer to that.

But it isn’t even just Christianity. All religions are screwed up. Whether you believe that the universe is a lotus flower growing out of Vishnu’s bellybutton; or that there is a self-aware shadow lurking under your bed waiting to kill you; the situation is the same: you’re not basing your thinking on rational, observable, scientific thought and that makes you DANGEROUS.

Just because thousands or millions of people BELIEVE something that is totally outside the realm of possibility doesn’t make it OK. The only reason culture and society bows down to their pressure is out of fear. Fear because religious people are a bunch of wackos and we don’t know what they’re capable of doing.

Potentially dangerous example number 1: Imagine for a moment that you went to the top of the Empire State building to see the view. You are standing next to a person that looks perfectly rational. You don’t know a thing about what this guy believes or the danger you’re in. Suddenly the guy grabs you and carries you with him as he leaps off the building. “Why did you do that?” You scream in horror as you plummet to your death. “I thought you’d enjoy the trip, don’t worry, God’s angels will catch us.” He says in explanation.

Now if this fucker hadn’t had his crazy head filled with ridiculous fantastical images injected under the pretense of truth, you’d still be alive right now. He really thinks angels are capable of coming to save him because society was tolerant of his stupid delusions. Isn’t it time we started dealing with religion a little bit more responsibly?

Religious groups always bitch and moan about how they’ve been persecuted for their beliefs throughout all the years. Newsflash! What makes you think you have the right to believe whatever stupid shit comes into your head? And what about the fact that I’ve constantly been subjected to religious pressure to abandon rational thinking? That confused the hell out of me when I was a little kid and some asshole priest kept threatening me with images of burning, eternal damnation. That shouldn’t have been allowed! I’m all for persecuting and shutting up religious wackos.

I think we’ve all been in the situation where we tried to argue reasonably with some religious jerk to get them to shut up or change their mind, but it really is the wrong tactic. Instead of pointing out all the flaws in the bible, or the hypocrisy of a person who claims to believe in god yet turns to scientific medicine to save their ass when they get sick, the conversation should go something like this:

“Oh, you’re religious?”

Subject tries to answer but you’ve already pinned them down and started tying them up.

“Hey! What are you doing? Let go of me!”

“Sorry, I can’t do that, you just admitted to being religious so I have absolutely no idea what you believe or what you are capable of doing. You might think that God is telling you it is OK to kill me right now, or that you can fly, or that you will go to paradise forever for burning three children alive. I’m afraid I’m going to have to keep you restrained for the protection of yourself and others until you have demonstrated an ability to think rationally.”

Sure it is a minor inconvenience to religious people to tie them up and institutionalize them until they get better, but there are people with a lot bigger problems than they have. There are children starving in the world, wars, plague, disease, and frankly I just don’t give a shit about some lazy-thinking assholes who are too self-absorbed to discipline their minds into a tool that would be useful in abating these other problems.

They can sit in their little padded cells and tell me about how I will pay on “judgment day” or how the big green talking eggplant is going to come and get me or whatever. I don’t have time for that nonsense anymore, I have the weak to help and the sick to cure.

Fucking religious asshole wacko hypocrites. What possible reason is there to show them any respect? Even a dog is more likely to make reasonable choices. At least you know where he is coming from.

The End
