Political correctness is a joke anyway. I´m not sure that you´ve figured this out yet, but the pressure to be PC is just another in long list of bullshit, lowest-common-denominator tactics to brainwash the mainstream plebeian. For some reason, it has ever been the tendency of the powers in charge to do everything they can to keep the general public as stupid as possible. Perhaps, and this is a philosophical question I´m not intending to go into any detail on for at least today, it is necessary to keep the people down just to prevent chaos from reigning. Scary thought huh? Think I´m just rationalizing fascism? Well, look at the evidence.
But getting back to political correctness, I had a cousin who was getting on my case about a whole bunch of things. She was substituting the word “tolerance” for PC. I forget what the argument was, it was just something about how some people were doing something that was pissing me off and I was telling them to stop.
“But you should be tolerant of their belief system!” she espoused melodramatically as if she was the one true source of all things moral and altruistic.
“But they were pissing me off!” I responded succinctly.
“It doesn´t matter, you have to respect other people´s right to believe what they want to believe.”
“No, I don´t,” I said, and that startled her into a shocked moment of dumbfounded, and incidentally blissful, silence. “Just because some crazy, half-baked idea found its way into some idiots head doesn´t mean that I should have to respect it.”
She continued to be unable to respond, I seized upon the moment and continued.
“There are a lot of people in the world who believe a lot of crazy crap, I shouldn´t have to respect or tolerate it.”
“You should always be tolerant!” she said, recuperating her self-righteous vigor.
“I´m not tolerant of rapists, or child molestors!” I said.
This caused a lot of patronizing grunting as if the paradigm she was constructing obviously didn´t include considerations for such vile acts.
“Oh, I said, so you just pick and choose what you´re tolerant of? It´s not tolerance in general it´s compartmentalized tolerance for ideas that come with pre-packaged approval. Sounds like your idea of tolerance is a bunch of bullshit.”
That pretty much ended the conversation. She wasn´t showing a lot of tolerance for my ideas anyway.
The other thing about PC that gets me pissed is that nobody ever notices the blatant contradictions. The most obvious one is that according to PC we´re supposed to be tolerant of all religions and their beliefs. Ok, fine. We´re also supposed to be tolerante of “alternative” lifestyles such as homosexuality. Ok, whatever. But somehow left out of the equation is the fact that religious groups are not tolerant of homosexuals. So what the fuck are you supposed to do? Support a group that simultaneously bashes the rights your supposed to be championing? How does that make any fucking sense?
Believe me, there are a shit ton more examples, but I´m too tired to list them. Just take my word for it. The next time you´re in an argument and somebody says you shouldn´t say or do or believe something because it´s not PC, just tell them that all PC defenders are card-carrying fascists, and if they start to stutter in rage, encourage them to be more tolerant of your “alternative” beliefs.
The problem with idiots though, is they don´t recognize when you catch them in a logical vortex. Shit, maybe it is better just to brainwash the mindless, vast, stupid, majority.
