A man was committed to stand trial in the High Court for
the murder of his reputed wife when the Preliminary Inquiry
(PI) ended yesterday before Magistrate Oscar Parvatan at the
Leonora court.
Jaigobin Sooklall, 23, is accused of killing Samantha
Ganesh, also 23, on October 5, 2003 when he allegedly stabbed
her with a knife at his father-in-law's home at Uitvlugt, West
Coast Demerara.
Sooklall had given a confession statement which was
contested by defence counsel Bernard De Santos SC as being not
free and voluntary.
However, after hearing from the prosecution and from
Sooklall, Magistrate Parvatan admitted the statement.
According to police reports, Sooklall had returned from a
drinking spree and killed his wife. Sooklall was arrested by
police ranks at his parent's home.
