Detectives have since recovered the car the gunmen hijacked after shooting Rambarran.

The vehicle, which belongs to an Eccles resident, was found abandoned at about 02:30hrs yesterday morning in the vicinity of Ebenezer Road, West Ruimveldt Front Road .

Rambarran, 52, of Nandy Park , was shot in the left side chest shortly after he had left his business place opposite Didco in Ruimveldt in motorcar PHH 3592.

He managed to drive to Ramp Road , Ruimveldt, before eventually crashing into a lamp-post.

Police later retrieved some spent shells from the scene of the shooting.

Following the incident the gunmen hijacked PAA 4707, which was proceeding east along Ramp Road .

Rambarran's brother, Jacob Rambarran, said that his brother, who is the Director of R&R International, had just completed an eighteen-hour shift and was leaving for home when he was killed.

“I think that this was a senseless killing. Who would have a lot of money on them at that hour of the night? This was the work of amateur bandits.

“My opinion is that the bandits probably thought that Harry had a gun, and so they decided to take the upper hand and shoot him first,” Jacob Rambarran said.

He added that a female clerk, who was in the car with his brother when the bandits attacked, informed him of the incident.

“The clerk who was with him called me and told me about what had occurred, and I in turn called the rest of the family. By the time the family arrived at the scene, Harry had already been rushed to the hospital.

“The clerk said that the men demanded cash from her and my brother. She told me that, after my brother was shot, he drove away and crashed into a lantern post on Ramp Road . According to her the men ran towards the car and continued to demand money, but she said she told them they didn't have any money,” the slain man's brother said.

The father of the young man who was driving the car that was hijacked said that his son was heading home when he saw the car (Rambarran's) crash into the light-post, and he slowed downed to render assistance when he was hijacked.

“By the time he slowed down the two men, who had apparently ambushed him, walked up to him and demanded that he leave the car,” the Eccles resident said.

He noted that, after the car was found, an amplifier and some documents which were inside were not recovered.

According to a police press release, the bandits robbed Rambarran and his clerk of $4,000 and a cellular phone.
