Armed
robberies and a car-jacking A Patentia, West Bank Demerara taxi-driver resident is nursing two gunshots wounds after he was reportedly shot by bandits after they hijacked his motor car yesterday morning at Bel Air, Georgetown. The wounded man is Premnauth Bisnauth, called “Prem”, 28, of Lot Two Area ‘G’ Patentia, West Bank Demerara.
The Police said the robbers hired Bisnauth on Sheriff Street to take them Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown. When they reached Bel Air, the men pointed a gun at him, pushed him out of the car and shot him in his right shoulder after which they drove away.

Police are also investigating three other gun crimes in Georgetown and on
the East Coast Demerara. Police
in ‘A’ Division, East Bank Demerara are investigating an alleged
robbery under arms committed on Rayaz Alli, a businessman of
Prospect, East Bank Demerara by three men armed with handguns at 20:00h on
Saturday. They stole $48,000 in cash and other articles. Alli
operates a CD and Music shop and was in the process of closing his
establishment when the three men entered the premises and stuck him up.
They then proceeded to rob him after which they made good their escape. Also
in ‘A’ Division, Georgetown at 16:45 hrs Saturday the police arrested
a man, who had in his possession a firearm with ammunition. The
Police said an affiliation warrant was about to be served on the man when
he was observed to be acting suspiciously. A
search was conducted on his person and one .32 snub nose revolver
containing four live rounds ammunition was found. Police
in ‘C’ Division, East Coast Demerara are investigating robbery under
arms committed on Hemwantie Singh called “Davi” and Eddie
Maraj, both of Sixth Field, Cummings Lodge, by two men, one of whom
was armed with a handgun. The
duo was robbed of cash and jewellery about 19:30 h Saturday. The
Police said the men were seen entering the yard by Maraj who began to run
but the robbers opened fire at him and he stopped. Maraj
was then taken into the house where he and Singh were assaulted. The
intruders ransacked the house and carried away $100,000 in cash and a
