WORLD ADVANCEMENT FINALS 2003

                        By Sinista

The World Advancement Finals were once again held in Munich Germany Dec 5-6th. DJ Joker flew in to defend his title in front of a 4000 capacity sold out Baugatag Theater.  After 3 lightening fast elimination rounds, The quarter finals began with seven title hungry competitors to take on the defending champ.

QUARTER FINALS: Two Rounds 90 seconds each

QUARTER FINAL 1

DJ Joker ( Defending USA )  vs.  Yasima (Japan)

Yasima started off with a juggling of a tune I had never heard of before (probably Japanese pop), Joker answered right back with a very fast juggle of Mary J's family affair. Yasima wasn't fased... Answering right back with a juggle using Jokers very popular Ami H breaks for some fast disses and body tricks. Joker threw on Ludacris and scratched furiously one-handed to bring the crowd to its knees and took the round.

Yasima 1      Joker 1

Yasima 2      Joker 2

Judges:    Joker 9   vs.   Yasima 2

Quarter  Final 2

Dare (Spain) vs. Tiger Style (UK)

Tiger Style returned to the ring with a vengeance stamping out his authority in the eliminations attacked Dare with very hard disses from MOP, Dare answered back with a techno juggle that had everyone's head bopping. Knowing he was in trouble, Tiger pushed a very heavy tone piece back that looked hard to top. Dare simply smiled and gave him a "gimmie a new trick bitch" scratch that received so many "oohs" it was a tough one for the judges to call.

Judges:  DJ Dare 7    vs.    Tiger Style 4

Quarter Final 3

Gero (France)   vs.   M-Tek (Germany)

M-Tek came out strong with his Offsrping diss of "his pretty lame for a french guy", only to be downed by Gero's " your styles are too simple for me" Tek's next set sounded good for the first 20sec, but it sounded like it was un-reheresed and turned sour. Gero came over the top scratching over Eminem's  "purple pill" for the kill.

judges:   Gero 11   vs.   M-Tek  0    Unanimous Knockout

Quarter Final 4

Select (Australia)  vs.  StormCut (USA)

Select didn't really look like he belonged in the quarter finals to me. Both of his sets were a blur, and very hard to understand. Highlights had to go to StormCut for his 1-900 diss in the second round which won the day.

Judges:  StormCut 10   vs.   Select 1

SEMI FINALS :  Two Rounds 90 seconds each

Semi Final 1

DJ Joker  vs.  Gero

Joker started out with a  juggle of busta's "pass the covosea", ending with 2 click flares (very nice). Gero started a clean juggle of "Enter IronSpire" but half way though his needles skipped. Joker capitalized on the opportunity going in for the knockout with a very fast "swamp" juggle and scratch display. Gero had some fire power left using a "bully breaks" diss, but once again needle problems forced him to cut it short.

Joker 1         Gero 1

Joker 2         Gero 2

Judges:  Joker 11    vs.  Gero 0    (Hard luck for Gero's needles)

Semi Final 2

DJ Dare   Vs.  StormCut

StormCut opened with a very nice needle dropping display that had the crowd on its feet. Dare nodded his head an did a slow then Jungle speed juggle of "Peaches & Cream" that had everyone starring. StormCut with his last breath gave a diss especially prepared for Dare that sounded unbeatable, Dare bounced right back with a "Gangsta Breaks" juggle that received an almost five minute standing ovation.

Judges:  Dare 8   vs.  StormCut 3

FINALS: 2 rounds 2 minutes each

Joker (Defending USA)   vs. Dare (Spain)

Now this was a very unexpected match... Joker for the first time all night had a worried look in his eye facing the now very crowd popular DJ Dare. Joker as the defending champ had the right to choose whether he went on first or second, he choose  to go on second, hoping to put the pressure on DJ Dare. Dare opened with a strong juggle of "Phantasm", then going to a  Gangsta breaks needle drop that had everyone cheering. I noticed that while Dare did his first round, Joker switched out  what records were already set to use initially. He dropped his first choice wax, and proceeded to juggle at 33 / 45 "Electric Dreams" with some very interesting sound riffs (Very tough to call). Its seems that Dare's last set was the only remaining un-used set he had left, and finished with an extension of his elimination set "lets get scratching" (Its sounded a little different, but was still the same set). Joker however still had another set left, which was originally going to be his final opener which he switched.... In the eyes of this man, Joker truly saved the "best" for last. his last set was more like a mini 2 minute mix using a break record I had never heard (His new Stewie Breaks) and Rhos (Jem-Stone). Not only was the crowd in aww of Jokers mix, He ended by pointing directly at Dare as his record screamed "Stop Scheming and lookin Hard".

Dare 1         Joker 1

Dare 2         Joker 2

Judges: Joker 11  vs. Dare 0   Unamimous Knockout
