Windsong

I rode slowly down to the lakeshore.
I heard the song of the wind.
I felt the lyrics in every pore,
The melody silvery thin.

It sang of bittersweet memories,
The time untrue love came calling,
I heard in this whispery breeze,
The echo of my tears falling.

Then changed the wind it's haunting song,
And sang of happier things,
Of the day to come before long,
When my true love time would bring.

As I turned my horse toward hearth and home,
The windsong echoed faintly again.
I smiled as I thought of the poem,
I would write of the song of the wind.
