Bireme

A typical roman galley was the Bireme. It had a ram at the front and several oarsmen. The out rudders served for staberlisers and the ram added for the balance as well. Unfortunately the ship colapsed easily.

Liburnia

The crew of a Librunia consisted of 50-80 oarsmen and a genaral crew of 30-50. Liburnias were used everywhere in the roman empire. Compaired to the elier fighting ships the Liburnias were very grand and powerful. One of the Liburnia's qualties was the excelent ramming system. The ship had a thinner but stronger ram than the Bireme which balanced the ship perfectly on atack.
