THE MARY ROSE



Rose sank in the Solent, drowning 700 men and crew. Chess games and dice have been found on board, and jewels and valuables too. The remains were discovered late in the 18th century.

THE CAUSE

It was said it sank because of its heavy guns and men, but excavation teams have hauled it up.

It lies in Portsmouth historic dockyard, as a really nice thing to look at

What was found


The remains of around 200 individuals were found

 

On the wreck and these have been studied. There were a few boys and men in there forties. There are some books survived from the ships, but the pages you can’t really see.


The wreck of the Mary Rose was discovered

18th century, but it was not until 1967 that proper investigations began to take place. On 11th of June 1982, the wreck was hauled up and placed in Portsmouth historic dockyard. It was watched by a million on TV. The ship could go at quite a fast speed, and it was measured in ‘knots’. It never saw a single enemy warship, because it sank just out of port.
