In 1939, Belfast was mined by the Germans and suffered considerable damage to the hull. Soon she was back in action and went on to fight in the rest of WW2 and in many other wars after that before finally completing her final mission in the late 60's to early 70's.

The Admiralty ordered the construction of the Belfast to create battle ships capable of mass destruction.
