The Welcome Party
- Joseph: "How about we just introduce ourselves at registration and leave it at that. I don't have anything against picnics, but I really wouldn't know what to say to these kids when we make them eat lunch with us. We need to make them feel welcome, that's a given, but eating lunch with them, or having a party for them, I think, will make them feel uncomfortable."
- Bonita: "i don't like the idea of a picnic. it just seems weird. i don't really like
the idea of a welcome part either. we'll basically be doing that day of
registration anyway, won't we?"
- Annemarie: "a picnic lunch in the circle . . .
might be good to go with the first day after the first day of school like Arlene said. Again this all depends on if we have new people coming,
right?"

- Andy: "I reiterate arlene's"
- Andrew: "I just love this idea, dahlin's. When?
How about registration? We can talk to them then...or the first day. Either."
- Jenni: "don't mind"
- Arlene: "a lunchtime...the day after the first
day of school? So there's a day to put the note in the mail to be sent to them..."

- Joseph: (see comments above and...) "Let's focus instead on making our September 5th party (where we invite everyone) a blast."

- Annemarie: "At the moment I'm in favor of
this idea: Since there will probably won't be a huge number of new or returning students they might feel awkward if we did a big thing for them (??). So, my
suggestion is that as class officers we send them notes in the mail to welcome them and invite them to a picnic lunch in the circle…of just them and us. In
this way they would hopefully feel welcomed, feel like they know some people, and wouldn't be put too much on the spot in front of a whole ton of people.
[Maybe this is a better idea to do with just new students and do something different with returning students?]"

- Andy: "keep things small is what I would say"
- Andrew: "Yes, that would be weird. Let's just do new guys."
- Jenni: "just them and us...too intimidating"
- Arlene: "if it was just them and us...wouldn't it be kinda weird...
if we already know them and invite them to a "get-to-know-you" party??..."
