“No. As a highly-evolved species of Consciousness, they manage to find plenty of time to merely entertain themselves. But being under the 3rd Law at all times, sex plays a great role in what they do with their free time. Music is a great example. They know that birds sing to attract mates and establish territories, yet they don’t consciously associate that with their music. Human musicians do it for sex. Musical abilities are a derivate of sexual energies. Musical abilities are a mark of prestige during their sexual-development teenage years, and ever afterwards. The popular musicians are often beautiful people who don’t need to sing well, thanks in great part to their recording engineers, who are rich. Music ‘stars’ can ‘get around’ easily, as can other artistic ‘stars,’ such as film ‘stars.’The corruption of this derivate, though, can be much less harmful than those of other derivates, such as military power and wealth. Someone obsessed with music doesn’t need to harm others, such as someone obsessed with political power.
“Human stories are generally about sex and its derivates, if not in an obvious fashion, then discreetly interwoven into the story. Much of their literature and movies, however, uses sex to paint a portrait of the Quest for Meaning.”
“A derivate of the 1st Law, no? Is it the 1st Law here, too?”
“Hrmmrr... Have you not been paying good attention to your studies? I shall recap, child. The 1st Basic Law is the Growth of Consciousness, with its natural derivate the Quest for Meaning. Of course, it is the primary drive of Earth and humans, as it is everywhere/when else in the Universe and its sisters. Sex is the 3rd Basic Law of Earth, and thus a very strong component of its Sphere of Influence. Sex is only 9th in our planet. Speaking of laws, it is amusing that much of their recent literature expresses a desire to live off-planet. They don’t suspect at all that humanity could not possibly live off-earth. As nerve endings of Earth, humans are confined to its particular laws. Should their descendants live in space or on another planet, they would be like skin cells in a jar. The different laws, and the absence of the laws they have evolved in, would mutate them into another species altogether. They are aware of gravity and pressure and the such, but most laws they are oblivious to.”
“And that is why we can’t stay on Earth very long, no?” asked Moot, trying to make up for Cheez’s reprimand.
“Hrmmrr, yes. An interesting earthly manifestation of the 1st Basic Law, heavily molded by the 3rd, is human religion. They have many religions, because of the 3rd Law’s derivates’ influences. If there was less sexual competition, with its derivates of violence and the such, they’d see the sense of having no specific religion at all, but of just being religious, yes?”
“How else does the 3rd influence religions?”“Well, let me think... I remember that, in this particular nation, one of the greediest and strongest on Earth right now, ‘kriss-chuns’ ‘dress up’ in ‘sun-day’ clothes, put on perfumes, and attend religious services to look at one another, especially at the pretty ones. Because of the polar opposition of the 1st’s and 3rd’s derivates, religions have always had problems with sex. The clashes of these derivates have spawned an immense quantity of variations of corruptions, extreme behaviors, and self-deluding hypocrisies.”
Moot was looking at a young woman in the street, and at the baby she had growing inside her stomach. “They grow, too, no? Are they always like this?”
