Starlight

Please note how important the message of this poem is

This Star

I dreamt one night of oceans far that held a star within.
The waves enclosed it in their grasp, flowing like a shark fin.
I desired to save the star so it could fly away,
And maybe, in it’s gratitude, it would take me someday.

When I reached out to part the tide, the foaming sea withdrew.
Then this young star flared out into the sky and up it flew.
For now it knew that nothing in this world would stop it’s flight.
A million droplets could not keep this young star from the night.

I asked this star with patient words, “May I join you tonight?”
And silently the star glimmered and shined in awesome light.
It said to me, in kindest sound, “I will not leave this bay.
And as for you, there are still many who need you today.”
