The Graduate

1 Corinthians 12:1-6 KJV
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

1 Corinthians 13
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

In one of the opening scenes of the Movie called the graduate with Dustin Hoffman, a man called the recent graduate aside to give him advise on pursuing a career.  The man says I have one word for you plastics.  People are given advice and choose a career in many cases based on what is very popular or very lucrative at the time.  They fail to perceive that God likes variety and he does not waste.  He has given us all very special talents.  What some may view as a handicap, God sees as an asset.  This perceived handicap might actually be that very special and unique talent bestowed by God.  The young man who has difficultly sitting still in school is able to perceive things on a computer screen that the rest of us would never solve if we looked for the next ten years.  The daydreamer might have visual talents that that enable him to see things in time and space that completely elude the rest of us, one need only consider Einstein and Edison. Both were considered failures by some standards.

All are unique and created by God to be exactly what God wanted and he loves us just the way we are.  We need to measure ourselves and to measure others by God’s standard not the worlds.

Father May we be mindful that all gifts come from you.  We have nothing of our own to bring to the table.  Our gift has been bestowed for your purpose and your glory.  In being prideful of what is not really ours but a gift of the Holy Spirit, we do become the resounding brass or the tinkling cymbal.  May we be truly grateful and forever be mindful that all good things come from above Amen
