Ten Thousand Angels

"Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father,

and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?" Matthew 26:53[1]

Teaching Aid – Song “He could have Called Ten Thousand Angels.”

What movie now playing at the theater is so popular that most performances are sold out?

Some people say this film’s R rating stands for reality.  Can anyone tell me what the big controversy is surrounding this film?  Who knows what anti Semitism is?  Why do some people feel this movie may cause anti- Semitic feelings?  Who really killed Jesus?  (Listen to kids possible answers)

Who is Jesus?  Did any mob really have the power to kill him?  What could he have done with a snap his fingers or a nod of his head.

He could have Called Ten Thousand Angels

They bound the hands of Jesus in the garden where He prayed;
They led Him thro' the streets in shame.
They spat upon the Savior so pure and free from sin;
They said, "Crucify Him; He's to blame."

Refrain
He could have called ten thousand angels
To destroy the world and set Him free.
He could have called ten thousand angels,
But He died alone, for you and me. [2]

The people all up tight about this issue do not know the scripture or choose to ignore them because some get very uncomfortable with the idea of his personal sacrifice for each of us. Jesus was a willing sacrifice.    This knowledge can get under your skin and cause one to rethink their motives.  The Romans or the Jews were merely the instruments.  Our sin put Jesus on the cross. He went to the cross on purpose.  God loved mankind deeply but sin caused a seperation from God.  You can only imagine the anguish that God felt realizing the only way was to send his son to die in our place.

He was a willing sacrifice for you on purpose now live for him on purpose.

Father we are sinners and in need of your forgiveness and salvation.  We are eternally grateful you loved us so much that you died in our place.  As you died for us help us to live for you Amen.
