In Spite of Me

God does not love me because of who I am but in spite of it.

John 3:16[1]

“Jesus Loves Me this I know for the Bible tells me so.”

One of the most profound thinkers of his day was once asked his most profound thought.   He sang the above verse.

I have pondered this and took the thought a step farther.  God does love me but not because of who I am but in spite of who I am.  Could this be the reason this brilliant man found this verse so amazing.

The King of Kings left the joys of heaven to be born in a manger, to be rejected by those he came to save, and ultimately died for those who sinned against him.

This is the real meaning for Christmas.  This is why it is a time of love an sharing.  “This is the reason for the season.”

Father we are grateful for your overpowering love, a love that inspired you to sacrifice your only son for we who are totally undeserving.  You loved us inspire of our guilt and unworthiness.  This is the ultimate gift and the reason for the season, that we might have forgiveness and salvation though the love of Jesus Christ through acknowledging him as Lord and Savior. Amen

[1]  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
