Lesson Plan for
Rescued by Love (Grace)
Romans 5:6
But God commendeth his love toward us, in
that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Teaching Aid – Song Love lifted me
I was sinking deep in sin,
far from the peaceful shore.
Very
deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more;
But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.
Chorus Love lifted me! (even
me)
Love lifted me! (even me)
When nothing else could help,
Love lifted me![1]
I am reminded of the time, as a
beginning teacher, I joined a local service club. People told me it was a good idea. We were burning bush to get ready for a fair. A rabbit was in the pile of brush. I rescued him and that stupid rabbit ran right
back in. Kind of typical of the human
condition, Jesus rescued us. Set us
free. But if we rely on human effort we
wind up right back in the fire.
Have you ever sat
down to a meal and someone said lets return Grace. What they mean is lets ask the blessing. As my uncle used to say when somebody would
talk about saying Grace, “I never met the woman. In the Biblical sense Grace is
divine we do not have any to give or return.
It is hard for us to grasp the
concept that we are freely given something we cannot earn or deserve. This is Grace. I certainly hope my uncle did meet her. Have you met Grace? Has God’s love lifted you?
Father
your grace is sufficient. Jesus said it
is finished. He meant what he
said. He did it all, we cannot aid to
it, and we cannot offer improvements.
We can only accept his gift with a grateful heart. It is only by his
grace we are saved. Amen
