Casting Out Demons

Lesson Plan for Casting Out Demons

Scripture:

Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.  (KJV)

Genesis 3:4-5 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:  (KJV)

There are numerous examples in the Bible of demonic possession and Jesus or one of the disciples casting them out.  Though none is recording among members of the early church members it is a phenomenon that has Biblical validity.[1]

A number of years ago a movie, “The Exorcist,” was released.  Demonic possession grabbed the interests of many people.  Many churches had studies on exorcism and possession.  One scene in the movie really sticks in my mind it is the scene where the girl who eventually is so possessed that she requires and exorcism is playing with a ouija board.[2] Each time the mother tried to take the pointer it immediately pulled away violently going back to the little girl.  What this said to me is if you play with fire you have a good chance of being burnt.   Non-drinkers do not become alcoholic.  Non-Smokers do not become addicted to cigarettes.  Staying away from dabbling in the occult make it less likely that you will become in anyway obsessed by it.

Eve listened to Satan.  He convinced her with disastrous result that she could decide good and evil without God.  Jesus refused to listen to Satan’s lies when Satan tried to temp the Savior.  Jezebel the wife of Ahab brought unspeakable hardship to the Northern Tribes of Israel through the worship of Baal.  Serial killers, school shooter many have in one way or another fooled with the dark arts.  Most Goths are peaceful and are just making a fashion statement but some to develop a fascination with death that eventually causes them some personally issues.

What does this mean for the Christian is there any protection?  We briefly mentioned the Prophet of Baal and Jezebel.  Living at the same time was one of the greatest Prophets of Israel, Elijah.  Finally having enough of Baal and Jezebel trying to destroy him Elijah summoned the prophets of Baal to Mt. Carmel there he challenged them to a contest.  Elijah said if Baal be God worship him if the Lord be God worship him.  Elijah gave the Prophets of Baal first chance at making sacrifice.  As they prayed and cantancted nothing happened.  Elijah began to taunt them.  Pray louder your God cannot hear.  Pray louder he is going to the bathroom. Nothing happened.  Then Elijah had the altar of the Lord completely soaked.  Water was running down the sides.  The wood was sitting in water.  Elijah offered a prayer and the sacrifice burnt so hot that the fire immediately evaporated.

Bottom line God is the answer.   Marital arts techniques are tool to forge your mind body and spirit in to a mighty spiritual weapon. If your belief system or your martial arts are based on a lie they will fail you.  Base your life and your art on the ultimate truth Jesus Christ.

Father May we base our life and our art on the truth that never fails Jesus Christ. Amen

[1] All instances of casting out demons in the New Testament are found in the Gospels or Acts.  This may mean the presence of the Holy Spirit in believers makes possession unlikely.
