INTRODUCTION
What do the Sierra Club,
National Wildlife Federation, Greenpeace,
and the Animal Protection Institute have in common?
SAVING ANIMALS FROM EXTINCTION!!!
You can also help endangered animals.
You can be a part of making the world a better place.
Here's how:

THE TASK
You and a partner are on a adventure to an exotic country.
You see an animal that you really like.
You are shocked to learn that this animal is ENDANGERED!!!!!

You vow to find a way to save this animal from extinction.
You think to yourself, "how can I help this animal?"
Follow the directions below to find out
how you can help this endangered species:

THE PROCESS
  • Choose an endangered animal. You may choose an animal from the pictures above and click on the picture for links to great information. Or, you may click on the Endangered Animal title and choose your own endangered animal.
  • Study your animal and think of a way to keep your animal from becoming extinct.

Choose the best solution and present your report to the class.

Here's how:
Print out this three-column graphic organizer.

1.     In the heading for the first column write: "Why is your
animal being killed or captured?" In this column, report on
what it is that is considered valuable. Is the animal being
used for fur coats, jewelry, handbags, ornamentation,
        or as a domestic pet?

2.     In the heading for the second column write: "How is your
animal being killed or captured?" In this column report on
the methods used for killing or capturing your animal. Do
         they use traps? Poisons? Nets?

3.     In the heading for the third column write: "What are some
ideas I can do to stop the animal from being killed or
captured?" For example, if your animal is being captured
with traps, maybe a task force can be assigned to patrol the
         area to collect the traps.

  • Extra credit: Here are some things you can do to help save endangered animals--write a letter, hold a fundraiser, adopt an animal.
