Brian reached Andover late this evening on a day with blowing rain and temperatures in the 40's.He's now in the 22nd and final state on his journey! He sounds both excited and impatient about finishing
The Mahoosuc Notch was the high point on Brian's hike from Gorham, NH. He said it reminded him of the Pinnacles National Monument in California (except that it was raining when he was traversing the Notch.) The Notch is a boulder-filled canyon with white blazes to mark the trail, such as it is. It took Brian an hour and 40 minutes to get through the 0.9 miles.
From the Oct. 24 San Jose Mercury News:
82 miles to go as of Tuesday evening.
Walked 28 miles Tuesday, including a side hike through a river canyon studded with waterfalls. It started to rain in the afternoon. As he approaches Mount Katahdin at the end of the trail, Robinson said he is starting to feel "like a pilgrim... completing an inner journey."
From the Oct. 25 San Jose Mercury News:
Brian has 48 miles remaining as of Wednesday night.
Journal Entry: Only a few leaves are left on the trees in the Maine woods, which are carpeted with the orange and red of fallen leaves. Despite only 11 hours of daylight, Robinson logged 30 miles in balmy weather. "I just wanted to walk and walk and walk," he said
October 27, 2001Brian finished the Triple Crown today,He has hiked 7,371 miles in 300 days. AT: ALL of 2,168 miles. |

BRIAN REACHED THE TOP OF MT. KATAHDIN THIS MORNING AT ABOUT 10:30 AM,
HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS BROTHER GREG,
FELLOW HIKER SAGE, AND FIVE MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA!
The group climbed the last five miles of trail in three hours, or at least Brian took that long. Some of the others may have joined him a bit later on top. It was snowing but not windy, and the sun broke through the clouds as they reached the summit. All in all,it was an acceptable day weatherwise for so late in the year. This was Brian's 300th day on the trails!
Thanks to all the press coverage, many of you have read about Brian's hike in the past few days, and have sent notes of congratulation. I will pass all of these along to Brian. You will continue to find updates, new photos, trail logs and more details posted here. For now, I simply confirm, for those who haven't already heard, that "Brian made it!"
