Unlike most forms of meditation, the Beta Level trance is not meant to take you to an astral plane. Instead, it pulls you deeper within, making it well suited for past life regression. This method is designed for 2 people, a speaker and a subject, but it is possible to do this on your own with experience.
To increase your chance at success, find a dark, quiet place. Block all outside light, then add a couple candles. Place these in a location where the subject cannot directly see them. For argument's sake, I'll assume that the subject is male, in order to avoid annoying extra typing. The subject will lay down with his head in the speaker's lap, who will massage his temples. I always use a pillow; it's more comfortable for the subject and distributes weight more evenly on the speaker's legs.
The speaker will talk the subject through 7 steps, getting vocal verification from the subject before moving to the next step. The steps are:
1. Speaker counts down from 20. Subject simply listens. Speak slowly; a rushed session is a sloppy session!
2. Speaker leads subject down through the six primary colors, beginning with red. This is the most difficult step, so be patient. Basically, the subject will need to visualize nothing but the color. A good way to do this is to start by instructing the subject to visualize a big, shiny apple. If the subject has difficulties getting a good mental picture, give a more detailed description of the apple. When he as a strong mental picture, instruct him to zoom in on the apple until all he can see is the skin, with no empty space around it. Then smooth the surface ouut until all that's left is a red plane. In my mind, it always has a misty quality. Again, this can be really difficult and the speaker might have to start back to the apple several times.
When the subject is comfortable with the red level, instruct him to sink down into orange. The first time, sinking might also be difficult. If it is, go ahead and repeat the apple process with an orange. Once orange is completed, work through yellow, green, blue and purple.
3. When purple has been completed, instruct the subject to visualize a hallway. Ask for a description of it; make the subject get a really clear image. The descriptions of what he sees can be very meaningful, something you might want to analyze later. For a description of my hallway (and everything else), click here. If you plan on trying this method, don't read these until you've already tried. My description can bias what yours might be.
4. Have the subject visualize a stairway to the lower level at the end of the hallway and to walk to it. If the subject doesn't respond for awhile, don't worry--some hallways are long, some people walk slow. Get a description of the stairwell and tell the subject that there are 20 steps. If he tells you otherwise, just make him adjust it. Tell the subject to step down to the 20th step, then the 19th, and so on. After the 15th, I generally just tell the subject to walk all the way down and tell me when he's done.
5. The subject has now reached the beta level. Get a description of it--this place can be really bizarre!
6. Instruct the subject to visualize a locked door. Again, description. The key is in the subject's pocket. Have him open the door and walk through.
7. You've made it! The secret place is an imaginery place deep in the subject subconscience, and if there's something the subject doesn't like, he can change it. The speaker can also add things, so be careful--my secret place has a bowling alley. You can play around here for awhile or explore past lives (e-mail me for further instructions). When you're all done, you can exit by working backwards through the steps (make sure you count forward this time). Don't forget to lock up!
