Beauty and the Beast"Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve....but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15)"So
it was, when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, that she
found favor in his sight, and the king held out to Esther the golden
scepter
that was in his hand. Then Esther went near and touched the top of the
scepter." (Esther 5:2)
Long before Disney could finish the score for its hit movie Beauty and the Beast, God already had a more powerful story in the Book of Esther. Esther
was a young Jewish Beauty chosen by King Ahasuerus of Persia
to be his queen. When an evil Beast named Haman, the Bible's
version of Hitler,
Stalin and
Dr Evil, devised a plot to kill all the Persian Jews, Esther went
before the king to plead for the lives of her people. That was
no small
task, because the law said no one could come before the king unless he had summoned him or her or they would be killed. So selfless Esther, The Bold
and The Beautiful, was literally taking her life in her own hands
as she went before the king that fateful day.
When Esther showed
up before King Ahasuerus, he was literally struck by her beauty. Esther
was not only beautiful on the outside, but
also on the inside with A Beautiful Mind Russell Crowe could only dream of having. Ahasuerus stretched out his golden scepter to her, which was a sign of his favor. It was a scepter of righteousness, favor, power, comfort, and guidance, a forerunner of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The king was saying, "Touch the scepter, and you'll have access to all my power," and that is what the Holy Spirit is telling us today. In order for Esther to touch the scepter, she had to get close to the king. If we want to have the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we have to get Up Close and Personal with God, not Robert Redford or Michelle Pfeiffer. When Esther got close to the king, he accepted her, and granted her request
to spare the entire Jewish people. When you get close to God by
spending time in His Word daily, you can expect Him to favor you, bless
you,
deliver
you, protect you, increase you, promote you, and grant your desires
too.
