Shell Extensions
Add extra functions to the right-click context-sensitive menus.
Shell Extensions by Laurent Berger **FREE** Screenshots 33 kb
- Click the Windows Freeware link.
- modify the "Date/Time" of a file or group of files. This is a lot easier than adjusting the system clock
- display "Folder Size" (helps you find space-hogging folders so you can backup/delete them
- the Date/Time and Folder Size extensions show up as a NEW tab on the Properties menu.
- "Split File" works on large files. Split into floppy sized chunks (8 pre-set sizes or specify a size); merge does not require Split File to be installed.
- Split File extension shows up when you right-click a large file.
WHY I like it: extra functions come in handy.
ZDNet - PC Magazine
This is a good place to start if you're looking for a program to do something specific. Please go to ZDNet or PC Magazine and look in the download section. Links have been updated on 17-Oct-2002.
PC Magazine utilities are
no longer free.
More info.

Screenshot 10 kb
- Pop-up disabler (Pop-up windows, usually advertisements, are new browser sessions launched using JavaScript)
- Referrer removal (Whenever you click on a link to access a site, your browser sends the address of the page you just left, known as the referrer, to the new site).
Renaming Tools
I find 1-4a Rename is easier to use and more flexible than Lupas Rename (I haven't had a reason to rename multiple Folders yet). "Save last-used path and window size" is planned for the next version of 1-4a Rename.
1-4a Rename **FREE** Screenshots 79 kb
- Feature packed renamer, press F2 to switch from Basic and Advanced modes
- preview changes before making them, Undo in case of mistakes
- insert numbers/dates, swap words, change CaSe, replace, shorten, and many more
- all features are available from a single, colourful, well laid out screen; no tabs that require extra clicks
Lupas Rename 2000 **FREE** Screenshots 38 kb
- renames files as well as FOLDERS; familiar Windows interface
- preview changes before making them, Undo in case of mistakes
- insert numbers/dates, change CaSe, replace, shorten, and many more
- multiple language support
- shell integration (Lupas Rename can be added to the Right-click menu)
- can remember last window position and last used path
