Competition began at 09:00 with the last event at 18:25. Feature events included Day 1 of the Decathlon and Finals of the Women's Pole Vault, Javelin and 100m; the Finals of the Men's Triple Jump and 400m.
The history of the steeplechase event is somewhat unclear but it's fun to watch. The top 6 in each of two heats and the next 3 fastest finishers (15 runners total) qualify for the final on Day 6, August 8.
