GameBoy Information
Pokemon Gold & Sliver
After Nintendo's/Gamefreak's huge success with Pokémon Red & Blue
they've left Japanese and American gamers in suspense for the next
Pokémon RPG for Gameboy. Gamefreak has come up with yet another
definite hit, Pokémon Silver & Gold, which will soon be released in Japan
and soon after in America, hopefully. Silver & Gold won't be some bomb
sequel, thrown together in a couple of month's, it has been in creation for
a couple of years now and boasts some of the most spectacular features
and innovative gameplay ever crammed into a 2 meg Gameboy cartridge.
Nintendo of America has confirmed that Silver & Gold will come to America
but no one knows when. Till then we can only speculate and drool over
the mere 20 or so screenshots and little tid-bits or information Nintendo
has thrown out for us.
Nintendo has gave us some insight into their upcoming title. Pokémon
Silver & Gold will have some NEW Pokémon (100) and all the original
from Red/Blue (150) to make 250 (100 + 150 = 250). There will also be a
breeding function for all you Pokémon Breeders out there, similar to FF's
Chocobo Breeding. In the new breeding function you need to have a
female and a male Pokémon, hypothetically of the same species, mate
them, then out comes a little Poké-Egg. But the trick is catching the
Pokémon first, with Pokémon Silver & Gold's NEW 'Daytime-Nighttime'
feature, some Pokémon are nocturnal and only come out at night, and
some are only active during the day. So you'll have to wait for some
Pokémon to come out in order to catch them. What I really have to see is
how Gameboy handles the Daytime-Nighttime transition. With this new
breeding function also comes various questions, will you be able to
cross-breed species? These will only be answered when it comes out.
Rumors have also been swirling that you don't get to play as Ash this time,
maybe Brock or Misty or even a NEW trainer? This leaves allot of
speculation on what the story line is going to be about. I've heard that it is
suppose to be 100 years in the past. Pokémon will learn different TM's
and HM's and also NEW moves and abilities. The Pokédex has also gone
through a facelift and an upgrade so expect a much better interface and
look to the Pokédex. Nintendo has been taking their time with Silver &
Gold to optimize it for the NEW Gameboy Color system which has recently
hit the market. Expect a lot of new features and great graphics in
Pokémon Gold & Silver and if you liked Red/Blue, you'll go ape for Silver/Gold.
Pokemon Card GB
Pokemon Card GB is a GameBoy color game. It is in full color, unlike
regular Pokémon. You are a character (whose name you make up) that
travels around Pokémon Card Island. Your task is to earn all 8 Card
Badges, and collect all 226 cards. A great feature about Pokemon Card
GB is the fact that you can print out the cards that you own onto a GameBoy Printer.
One of the game's best features is the ability to fight someone again.
Unlike the original Pokémon, you can beat (or lose) against someone, and
then fight them again any time at your own will. In the original Pokémon
game, whenever you ran across a trainer's line-of-sight, you automatically
had to fight them. In Pokémon Card GB, you aren't obligated to fight. The
only thing is, you must beat all of the card players in one gym before you
can face the leader. If you want to fine-tune your skills, you can beat them again.
