Pokémon Trading Card Game
Counterfeit Alert Fans should be aware that illegal counterfeit Pokémon trading card game cards are being sold in the United States and Canada. It's not always easy to tell the real ones from the fake ones, but there are a few things you can do to make sure you are buying or trading the authentic cards.

1. First, avoid the following two packaged games: Q-BOY: The "Q-Boy" cards that come in a cardboard pack are both thinner and shorter than the official Pokémon Trading Card Game cards, and have no trademark information on them. These cards are currently found in Canada and the northern United States. 28- count card packs: These cards, which are labeled Pokémon, are sold in clear, zip-lock style plastic bags of 28 cards. The official Pokémon Trading Card Game cards are not packaged this way. We do not sell cards in quantities of 28. These cards are also printed on a much thinner paper stock, use a different print type and are found mainly in New York and New Jersey. Counterfiets are also being sold in California, the entire east coast and various points in between.

The easiest way to avoid buying these or any counterfeit cards is to buy only our sealed, plastic wrapped, sealed starter kits and preconstructed theme decks or booster packs from a reputable store. The 2-player starter kits contain two 30-card decks and one first edition "Machamp" card, preconstructed theme decks contain 60 cards and the booster packs contain 11 cards.

2. If you are trading individual cards with friends, you can use the "light test." Hold the card up to the light. If you can see light through the card, then it is a counterfeit card. Because the paper stock on some of the counterfeit cards is thinner, they feel lighter, bend easier, and will let light shine through.

3. Other ways to tell if a card is counterfeit: -Counterfeit cards will stand out if put in a stack of legitimate cards. They are usually a different height and weight. -The legal text at the bottom of the cards is usually blurry, or non-existent on the counterfeit cards. If you have any questions about counterfeit cards, please feel free to call the Wizards of the Coast Customer Service line at 1-800-324-6496.
