THE UNTOUCHABLES, PHANTOM 50TH, FOLLOWED BY AFTER-MIDNIGHT SURPRISE
The 2024 Edinburgh Film Festival, which runs August 15-21, will include screenings of two Brian De Palma films, conveniently scheduled on the same day, next Sunday, August 18th. The first will be The Untouchables. "We are honoured to welcome The Sean Connery Foundation and members of the Connery family to present a special screening of Brian De Palma’s iconic gangland thriller," the fest's website states. "For Sean, making this film was the beginning of a whole new era," Jason Connery is quoted. "For the first time playing the older mentor and in a supporting role, but a pivotal one that won him the Oscar." Stephane Connery adds, "This film opened the way to extraordinary new roles and to career longevity rarely paralleled in the film industry."
About an hour after that screening event comes to a close at the Inspace screening room, a 50th anniversary screening of De Palma's Phantom Of The Paradise will take place at the Summerhall Red Lecture Theatre:

Then, in that same theater, festival guest Gaspar Noé will present a "surprise" after-midnight screening. "The selection will remain secret until the [lights] go down," the description reads. "But prepare to be surprised, provoked, shocked and entertained with Gaspar’s extraordinary selection of a title that will delight fans and newcomers to his particular vision for cinema alike." On Saturday, August 17th, Noé will present another Jessica Harper classic, Dario Argento's Suspiria in the Cameo Cinema.
