Fincher's The Killer is extremely overrated. The last two chapters are underwhelming and the ending one of the biggest copouts in cinema history. I said to myself "is that it?". The fight with The Brute was badly under lit that there was a visibility problem. I expected Fincher to redefine the globetrotting assassin genre and instead we a got an A to B revenge film. This is more a Netflix movie then a Fincher film. I'll stick to reruns of Blow Out

Unfortunately, I agree. For my money, it's the third Fincher dud in a row.

THE KILLER is pretty good, but the two previous, MANK and GONE GIRL, are 5-star films for me.

MANK and GONE GIRL is Fincher at his best. THE KILLER started off great with the first two chapters but lost interest as it went along. Sulphuric cinematography is the best aspect to the film. Some poor editing choices and the visual effects of planes seem dodgy. It has good and bad aspects. Still the best and perfect assassin film is DAY OF THE JACKAL.

MANK is for your granddad's generation regardless of how good it maybe crafted. The miracle is how this film got green lit at Netflix. It was probably as a favour to Netflix in getting The Killer as Fincher's next film for the streaming service. DePalma should consider Netflix as a possibility after the under appreaciated DOMINO which is a good low budget techno terrorist thriller. Don't listen to the haters there's good stuff in DOMINO considering it's troubled production.

Respect your opinion lads but, for my tastes, Mank & Gone Girl were a pale shadow of the Fincher who made Fight Club, Zodiac and Seven etc.

I must say that I am surprised by everyone's opinions here, as I thought THE KILLER was outstanding, and Fincher's best since FIGHT CLUB.  I have seen the film twice now, once in cinemas and once on Netflix, and I just find the thing incredibly exciting cinema all around, with the two hour running time just flying by.

Meanwhile, I have to say that I found both MANK and GONE GIRL to be nothing too special.  They are both definitely not bad films, but coming from David Fincher, I expected a lot more from them.

THE KILLER is more of a metaphor of David Fincher the director. The methodical and precision to detail of the killer is the methodical and precision to detail of director David Fincher. This is Fincher's most personal meta film. The film was terrific up to the point of The Brute until the last two chapters. Terrific cinematography, by the numbers screenplay. Wanted Fincher to redefine the assassin genre to a new level. Richard Linklater has his own assassin film HITMAN to be released on Netflix THE KILLER and HITMAN premiered at last year's Cannes film festival circuit.

I will say that THE KILLER seems to have something much more than a "by the numbers screenplay" all the way through - might take a closer look.

Fincher's best movie will always be the cult classic FIGHT CLUB. That script is a complex maze. THE KILLER screen play is pretty straight forward revenge story that goes from A to B from one killing to the next. Fincher has put hidden meaning into the movie that probably wasn't there in the script the way Brian DePalma has layered meaning in his films one would not find in the screen plays of his films.

The Killer is nihilism at its finest with a central character who thinks little of world and is basically a psychopath. The director at his darkest examination through a character who would be a villain in some other person's movie. David Fincher in top form.

What Fight Club is to David Fincher is what Scarface is to Brian DePalma.

I think The Killer and Hitman premiered at Venice?
