The Lies

Thank you for that time
when you bent down on one knee
and promised to me all your love and affection
and whispered gently into my ear,
"you know I'm yours forever and ever"
(but it was a lie)

Thank You for that time
when you came to me
with a rose in your hand
and that smile upon your face
and said to me, 
"I'll love you always."
(but I was only dreaming)

Thank you for that time
when I gave you my heart and soul
and you brushed away my tears
kissed all my fears away and said to me,
"You know I'm not going anywhere."
(but it was a lie)

but my dear
thank you for that time
late at night when all your promises died
and you showed me who you really were
because it took me awhile
to see that you were all a lie too
like the scattered words 
that dripped off your lips
and penetrated into my heart..
