When The Huon Valley Blossoms
Settled and serene, the districts of Huonville and Geeveston are lined
with blossom in the spring and laden with fruit by late summer. Buy
a bag of apples or stone fruit from an orchard gate and picnic by the water.
Drive inland to the higher reaches where the Huon and Picton Rivers spill
from the western ranges for a guided white water or rafting and kayaking
trip. Climb aboard for a jet boat ride or a more leisurely cruise
on mirror-calm waters; or into the saddle for a wilderness tour on horseback.
Catch a trout at the Snowy Range trout hatchery or wander through the Huon
Valley Apple and Heritage Museum. Top
Feel The Life of The Forests
Begin
your journey into Tasmania’s magnificent Southern Forests and Hartz Mountains
National Park at Geeveston, where the Forest and Heritage Centre will give
you tips on where to stop and what you’ll see. Follow the Keogh’s
Creek streamside trail or walk through Huon pines at the Tahune Forest
Reserve, suitable for all ages and abilities. Climb to the Big Tree
Lookout. Stay on for a barbecue or drive on to the magnificent Kermandie
Falls. If walking through the vast South-West National Park is not
an option, then either an easy walk through the Hartz Mountain National
Park bordering the Southern Forests or the view from the Waratah Lookout,
may be the next best thing. Top
