Horseriding
Imagine
galloping along a deserted beach at dawn accompanied by the sound of breaking
surf and pounding hooves, and you have a typical Tasmanian equine experience.
If more rugged terrain is your style, head for the high country -
there are trail rides on offer near Cradle Mountain and across the Central
Highlands. Take a mountain horse and climb the Western Tiers or ride
the unique Central Plateau snow plains. This is the land of a thousand
lakes and peaceful, alpine grassland. Guided camping tours on horseback
can be organized for two to ten days duration.
Packages
come complete with horse, saddle, tent, sleeping bag, three meals a day
- and a friendly guide who knows the Central Highlands area thoroughly.
Cradle Mountain, Coles Bay, Copping Seven Mile Beach, Strahan, Loongana,
Golden Valley, Prospect, Orielton and the Tasman Peninsula are some of
the locations which offer day trips or longer expeditions. Tasmania
is also a member of the Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia.
For those with the means and enterprise to provide their own horses, vast
forest reserves across the State offer unparalleled riding territory.
