Chp 9
They were seated in the back of the dimly lit restaurant. They both ordered wine and just looked at each other.
" I didn't think I'd ever see you again." Santara said.
"Me either....I'm glad I did though." AJ said.
"Me too. How did you happen to come into the bookstore, though?"
"Well, Kevin yelled at me, and I told them I was quitting. Howie followed me. I was drawn into the store."
"Kevin?"
"Yes, another guy from the group. We were practicing because I haven't been on recently. Actually, about a year I haven't been on. So, Kevin was getting pissed. We yelled at each other. I stormed out. Then I just felt like walking."
"And you just happened upon the store."
"Yeah.....nice coincidence, huh?"
"Very nice. You aren't going to stay in a fight are you? Shouldn't you be making up?" Santara asked. AJ laughed.
"No. Howie knows I wont really leave it. I love it too much. Plus, Kevin can stew for a while. He acts way too anal sometimes."
" How long have you guys been around?"
"Hm, 7 years. Don't get me wrong, I love the guys like my brothers. We fight like brothers too. Well all be cool again tomorrow."
"Thats great. You guys must be something to watch" A slight silence followed.
"So, how did you end up here?"
"I couldn't take my life anymore. I couldn't stand myself or my friends. I decided this would be the best change. Out here no one knew me. I'm just a tiny actress here. They really don't care about my New York career. I think I'm happier that way."
"You seem to have changed a lot. Your hair, your attitude, even the way you talk"
"I hope you aren't disappointed."
"Not at all."
"I'm glad. I've had so much to deal with. I just changed everything in my life. Everything is different."
"I guess I'll just have to find all about the new you."
They just smiled at each other as they ate. After dinner, AJ took Santara to a dance club. They had a great time dancing late into the night. They stayed until they were kicked out by the closing of the place. AJ wrapped his arm tightly around Santara as they walked towards her apartment. As they reached her apartment, he could feel her tense up.
"What's wrong" AJ asked. He pulled her into his arms in a tight hug.
"I'm not going to lie to you, AJ" Santara began softly. "I am not sure how you might react when I say this..."
"San.....If you are talking about sex, I wasn't expecting anything..." AJ looked deep into her eyes and brushed a stray piece of hair off her forehead. He kissed her softly.
He felt her hands going through his hair, and his head being pushed closer to her mouth. He deepened the kiss. Their tongues became engaged in a battle.
"San, I should get going." AJ muttered in between kisses.
"Uhhuh..." Santara couldn't take her mouth from his. AJ finally broke the kiss.
"I am going to be here for a few more days." AJ said.
"OK, will you call me tomorrow?" Santara bit her bottom lip.
"Yes, I will. Goodnight" AJ kissed her. She watched him walk down the street. She smiled as she ascended her steps, sniffing her rose deeply. She went inside and went straight to bed. For the first time in a year, she slept peacefully.
