Chp 7

AJ ran down the street, hoping he could remember where Santara's apartment was. He finally recognized a building, and ran up to the door. He was stopped by the doorman.
"Can I help you, young man?" the doorman asked suspiciously.
"Yes, I'm here to see Santara...." AJ stopped, not remembering her last name.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Santara just left." The doorman watched as AJ began to cuss and stomp around violently.
"Thanks anyway..." AJ mumbled. He was leaving NY in four hours, and he really wanted to talk things over with her. Now he would never be able to. He walked back to the hotel, sulking. He got there, and was greeted by Nick.
"You just missed Vicious." Nick remarked calmly. AJ's mouth fell open.
"What?"
"Yeah, she came here, looking all upset, and I told her you ran off..."
"What! Oh, fuck..." AJ sat on the bed and placed his head in his hands.
"She said the same thing..." Nick laughed. He looked at AJ's pissed face, and stopped laughing.
"I'm just going to leave now..." Nick threw the remote down and walked out of the room.
AJ got up, grabbed his baseball cap, and sunglasses, and left the hotel. He walked the streets until the guys left.

New York didn't compare to London at all. The streets had a totally different feel. Theater seemed to be taken twice as seriously. Santara had moved to London as soon as Somewhere had finished its run. She wanted to leave her lifestyle, start everything over. She left everything behind, trying hard to break her sexist habits. She realized they were harder then she thought to break. Shed been in London for 3 months, and shed slept with half a dozen men, just for the hell of it. For some reason, she felt like shit. She was in a CO-staring role in a play, and no one really cared much about her. She hadn't felt right ever since her talk with AJ. It had been years since she'd felt that comfortable with a man. She let her mind wander back to the day after the talk. She had gone to his hotel searching for him, but he wasn't there. Nick said they were leaving in a few hours, so she wouldn't have time to talk to him anyway. She had let Mel persuade her into listening to her heart, instead of her brain, which she had trained to distrust men. She had tried to find AJ, to tell him she wanted to seriously talk with him, but her chance had gone. Now she was left with confusion, mostly about where she was heading. After longs hours alone, contemplating her situation, she came to the conclusion he would have just broken her heart anyway, and to stop thinking about things that never would never happen.

"OK, so you haven't had sex for 6 months." Marie asked. Santara shook her head yes, slowly stirring her coffee.
"And, its basically because, you like this guy, who you haven't seen in a year."
Santara wrinkled her nose and shrugged her shoulders a little. "I guess you could say that....."
"So, do you think you'll ever see him again?" Marie peered at her through her thin glasses.
"I don't think so..." Santara let her eyes glaze a little.
"Well, I cant thing of a single thing to tell you..." Marie said quietly. Marie was Santara's new friend. They had met at an audition, and they basically became great friends. Marie was everything Cherie hadn't been. She was kind, a great listener, and a single mother. She definitely had different views on men then Cherie had ever had, and Santara was glad she had a new point of view.
"And, you only knew this guy for a few hours."
"Well....see, longer then that technically. I slept with him, then we didn't see each other for a few months. Then we met again at a party, and we had a great talked. Something just clicked. I mean, I knew it would click when I first met him. Then he wanted to fuck again, and I couldn't."
"So, it 'clicked'" Marie asked.
"Yeah."
"And, he's nowhere to be found."
"I never got a number..."
"Well, I hate to say it, but maybe you should just forget him.."
"I would if I could, Marie..." Santara responded sadly.
