Chapter 7: I’m sorry
Rain pelted Reanna in the face, but she didn’t care. She had to say something to
her mom. “Mom, I’m sorry,” Reanna looked up at the gray clouds, “I’m sorry for not
being there, if I would’ve been there, I could’ve stopped it.” Her eyes filled with tears. “I
wish you were here, I never got to tell you how much I loved you and that you were
special, I didn’t even get to give you a proper goodbye. I miss you so much.” Reanna was
completely drenched, her hair was wet and she was freezing, but she didn’t want to leave.
The sky thundered and lightning streaked across the sky. Reanna started to shiver so she
decided she might as well go inside. As she walked to the door, she said one last thing to
her mom. “I don’t know what I’m going to do without you.” She pushed her wet hair out
of her face to see a household full of people. Howie and A.J. played cards with Dana
while Brian and Nick watched T.V. Kevin and Ann sat on the couch and talked. She was
so lonely, she wanted someone to hug and tell her that they loved her, but she wouldn’t
let them. She couldn’t, she couldn’t go through the pain of heartache again. She didn’t
know what to do. ‘Well, first go take a shower.’ She thought. She opened the door and
walked into the house.
Kevin looked up to see Reanna drenched in rain, dripping all over the floor. Ann
got up and went over to Reanna. “Oh sweetie you’re going to catch your death of cold!!”
She tried to wrap Reanna on a blanket, but Reanna walked away and mumbled, “Don’t
worry about me.” She walked into the bathroom, “I’m taking a shower.” With that she
disappeared into to the bathroom. Kevin sighed, he wished that she would let someone
love her. He would, if she would let him......
About 25 minutes later, Reanna reemerged from the bathroom in new pajamas on
and sat on the far end of the couch. She watched T.V. silently. No one knew what to say,
what was there to say? They sat there and watched her. That’s all they could do. Ann
tapped Kevin on the shoulder and whispered, “Dana needs to be put to bed.” Kevin
looked at Dana who was curled up into a ball on A.J.’s lap. Kevin chuckled softly and
went over and picked her up, then carried her to bed. He watched her for a moment or
two and then left. He walked back into the living room to find Reanna sound asleep on
the couch. Kevin smiled inwardly. A.J. looked up at Kevin and said, “I think everyone is
tired today.” Kevin went over and gently picked Reanna up off the couch. He gently laid
her down on Ann’s bed. He sat on the bed with her and whispered “I’m sorry for not
being there for your mother,” He pushed her Reanna’s light brown locks out of her face,
he continued on, “I know you can’t hear me but I want you to know I’m sorry.” He kissed
her forehead softly, and walked out of the room and closed the door behind
him.Everyone in the household fell into an uncertain slumber, not knowing what the next
few months would hold.
