Chapter 4: The funeral
At the funeral, Reanna stood by herself, she didn’t talk to anyone. She didn’t want to be near anyone. The sun seemed so cruel to her, as if it was laughing at her pain. She felt cheated, she and her mom were just starting to get everything together. Then it was all gone in a blink of an eye. She wore black sunglasses and cried throughout the entire ceremony. As they lowered the coffin into the ground she whispered “Please don’t leave me.” But her plea wasn’t answered. Reanna couldn’t take it anymore, as tears streamed from her eyes, she turned and walked away.
Kevin stood there with his head to the ground as he thought ‘If I would’ve been there sooner she wouldn’t be dead.’ Tears blurred his vision. A hand tapped his shoulder. Kevin turned around to see an unfamiliar face. The man was middle aged and carried a briefcase. he said “Mr. Richardson I’m Jack Nelson, Ms. Mitchelson’s lawyer. I hope you know that in her will she specified that she wanted you to become guardian of her children.”
Kevin cleared his throat and answered, “Yes sir I know.”
Mr. Nelson said, “If you come this way, I can give you the adoption papers for you to sign.” Kevin followed Mr. Nelson to a table where he signed the papers. Mr. Nelson stood up and said “I know this is no way to get children, but I hope you enjoy having children.”
Kevin watched Mr. Nelson walk away and thought ‘Please God, help me be a good father.’
