Chp 10
Chapter 10: The Choices
The next morning, Kevin woke up at 5:30. He knew they had a rehearsal
today,
and a concert tomorrow. He would take the girls to the bus and get them
situated. He got
up and took a shower. After his shower, he made some wake up calls. Their
rehearsal
was at 8:45, it was 6:45 now. He called A.J.
“Hello?” A.J. said over the
phone.
“Hey A.J.
come and get Dana, okay?” “Alrighty.” A.J. said as he hung up the phone.
Kevin hung
up the phone and picked Reanna up out of the bed. A.J. was there in a matter
of minutes.
He picked up Dana and said “Shall we go?”
Kevin replied, “Yeah we better get
a move
on.” They walked into the hallway to find Nick and Brian at the coke
machine. Nick
turned around and exclaimed, “Hey, we were just coming to get you guys!”
Kevin glared
at Nick and walked slowly, not wanting to wake Reanna.
A.J. whispered
irratably, “Hey
loudmouth, could you be quiet and get the elevator door, I would, but I
think my luggage
would like to remain asleep.” Nick noticed Reanna and Dana still sound
asleep. He
grinned sheepishly and said, “Sorry.” Brian looked at him and whispered,
“You’re not
exactly the brightest crayon in the box, are you?” Nick shot Brian a
menacing look and
said, “Shut up Frick.” This made the boys all erupt into a quiet laughter.
With that they
walked to the elevator silently. Then Kevin noticed someone was missing.
“Where’s
Howie?”
“He went down to get a bell boy to get our luggage. He said he’d
wait for us
down there.” Brian informed them. They took the elevator down to the lobby.
Howie was
waiting at the counter for them. He turned to them and said , “The bus is
outside.” They
followed Howie outside to the bus. Kevin and A.J. went inside and found a
semi-bed in
the kitchen area. A.J. sighed and said, “This must be where the girls will
sleep.” Kevin
nodded in agreement. They placed them down on the bed. By this time it was
time to
leave. The bus pulled away and went to the stadium where they were going to
have their
rehearsal and their concert. The bus pulled in front of the stadium and
parked. Everyone
but Kevin got off the bus. He wrote Reanna a note and then left it on the
table. As he left
he said to the bus driver Kent, “Stay here, we’ll be back at 12:30. With
that Kevin hurried
off to join the rest of the guys.
Reanna woke up at 9:00 a.m. At first she didn’t know where she was, but
then
realized that she was on the bus. She looked over and saw Dana asleep. She
smiled and
then slowly got up as she took in all the things around her. She was in a
compartment
which had a semi kitchen area. At one end of the kitchen their was a long
hallway which
had sleeping bunks in it, the hallway led into a living area. Reanna went
over to the
kitchen table and sat down. She sat there for a moment until she noticed a
note on the
table adressed to her. She reached over and picked it up She began to read
it.
Hey we’ve gone to rehearsal and we’ll be back at 12:30 to eat. Help
yourself to
anthing on the bus. Be good, Kevin
Reanna looked around for a clock, it was 9:15. She stood up and looked
around at her
new home. “Ha, some home.” She said to herself bitterly. She hated it
already, she
wanted to be around somthing familiar. There was nothing familiar on this
bus. With a
hopeless sigh, she walked into the living area. There was a couch, a t.v , a
vcr, a
playstation, a Nintendo 64 and a load of games. Reanna shook her head and
thought
‘Nick’. For the first time that morning she realized how hungry she was.
Reanna walked
back into the kitchen to find something to eat. She opened a cabinet which
contained
chips, peanut butter, granola bars, and rice krispies. She pulled out a rice
krispy and
began to munch. As she ate, she went through another cabinet which had
drinks in it.
There was Sprite, Coke, Mountain Dew, and Dr. Pepper. ‘Yech.’ Reanna
thought, she
had never really liked soda. Not satisfied with what she found, she seached
deeper into
the cabinet. Her hands found three bottles. She pulled them forward to see
what they
were. She felt her jaw drop and anxiety pulsed in her heart, it was three
bottles of Jack
Daniels whiskey. ‘Who the hell has Jack Daniels on the bus?’ Then another
thought came
into her head, it said ‘Take a drink, you will feel no pain, it will take
away all your
probems and make you forget, take a drink.’ Reanna couldn’t believe she had
just
thought that. She shook her head. Her dad had drank, and it got him nowhere.
But still
the thought remained...... Reanna shoved the bottles back into the cabinet
and walked
back into the living area and turned on the t.v. At about 11:30 a.m, Dana
got up and
watched t.v. with Reanna. For the while Reanna forgot about the alcohol. An
hour later,
the girls heard the bus door fly open and footsteps bounded onto the bus.
The footsteps
hurled themselves down the corridor to the living room. A shadowed figure
appeared in
the doorway, it was Nick. He smiled and warmly said, “Hey girls, how’d ya
sleep?”
Reanna smiled half heartedly and replied, “Fine how was rehearsal?”
“Good,
hey do you
mind if I play some Nintendo?” Nick flashed a sweet smile to Reanna as he
asked.
“I
don’t mind.” She said.
“Sweet.” With that Nick turned on the Nintendo 64 and
began to
play. Shortly after Brian appeared in the doorway and challenged Nick to a
game of
Mario Kart. A.J. came in and decided to sing to Dana while Howie and Kevin
made
sandwiches for everyone. After that they all sat around and watched Nick and
Brian play.
Reanna asked Kevin, “How long is this tour?” Kevin took a bite out of his
sandwich and
replied, “This tour lasts about 3 months and then we go to Florida for a
month break, and
then we start our American tour.” Reanna nodded and then watched Nick as he
cursed
because Brian had just killed him with a red shell. Howie got up and stated,
“Speaking of
the tour, it is time for us to go back to rehearsal,” He said as he walked
over to the
Nintendo and turned it off, much to the disapproval of Frick and Frack,
“Lets go.” The
two guys got up off the floor reluctantly and headed for the door. Kevin got
up and
adressed the girls, “We’ll be back at 9:45 tonight, we will see you then. He
walked
towards the door when Dana got up and ran after him, “Wait take me with you
Daddy, I
want to go with you daddy!!” Kevin stopped in his tracks, he turned to Brian
and A.J.
who seemed to as dumbfounded as he was about the little girls staement.
Kevin looked
down at Dana and asked gently, “Why did you call me daddy?” Dana shrugged
and
plainly said, “Well you look more like a daddy than a Kevin.” Kevin face lit
up with a
smile as he said, “Dana you just made my day a hundred times better!! Yes
you may
come with us.” He scooped Dana into his arms and then turned to Reanna,
“Would you
like to come Reanna?”
Reanna just stood there shocked about what Dana had just said. Kevin wasn’t
there father, and he could never replace her mom. She wouldn’t let him.
Kevin asked
again, “Reanna? Would you like to come?” Reanna looked up at Kevin and said
barely
audible, “No thanks.”
Kevin shrugged and said, “Well then, we’ll be back at
9:45. See ya
then.” The guys then left the bus and Reanna listened to them as they
walked away. She
felt tears well up in her eyes. She was angry at Dana, how could she forget
their mom?
Dana was the only thing left that Reanna had of her mom, and now Dana was
forgetting
their mother. ‘Well, if she can forget, so can I.’ Reanna thought angrily as
she walked
over to the cabinet full of drinks. She pulled out a bottle of Jack Daniels
and a cup. She
filled the cup and drank the cup hastily. She placed the cup down and then
felt woozy.
She placed the bottle in the back in the cabinet and backed up and sat
clumsily on the
bed. Reanna felt her head get heavy and decided to lay down. All around her,
blackness
was closing in and then she could see nothing.

Reanna woke up at about 8:00 that night and lifted her head to look around.
Sickness
washed through her and then she stumbled to the bathroom. She threw up and
then tried
to compose herself. She heard Kent through the door,”Reanna, you up? I’m
glad because
you’ve been asleep for about four hours, you’ve must have been tired.”
She
mumbled
“Yeah.” She walked into the living area and watched t.v. for awhile. At
about 9:30 she
decided she might as well go to bed. After she laid down, about 15 minutes
later she
heard the guys laughing as they came onto the bus. Reanna pulled the blanket
above her
head and laid perfectly still. She heard Kevin whisper, “Shut up you guys
Reanna is
asleep.” A few moments later Dana was placed beside her. The guys stayed up
for about
another hour until they decided to go to bed. Reanna rolled over onto her
back and
thought ‘They will never know.’
