Chp 1
"Daddy!!" I squealed. I ran across the airport and practically knocked him to the ground. I hugged him tightly.
"Hey Ginny" He said, hugging me. I let go, and turned to Denise. Denise grabbed me and hugged me.
"Ginny, it's been so long." Denise said with tears in her eyes. "Turn around, let me see you." She twirled me around. "You have grown soo much. The pictures you kept sending us did you no justice."
"Stop Denise." I said slightly embarrassed. I looked exactly the same as the day I left for the boarding school 4 years ago. Same long black hair, same green eyes, same face, same everything. Even my clothes were basically the same. Not that RavenCroft helped me establish any fashion sense. When my thoughts stopped wandering, I looked at both my dad and Denise smiling at me the way only parents can. I put my arms around them both.
"Lets go, I'm exhausted." With that we left the airport. We got home and I went inside, half expecting to find Alex sitting on the couch, like the day I left.
"Where's Alex?" I asked. Denise smiled at me.
"He's not home from the tour yet," she replied.
"Oh..that's right. So, how is his little band going?" I asked. I grabbed a glass and poured myself some milk.
"Great. As soon as he gets home tomorrow, he'll fill you in. He's really excited you decided to come to college here, instead of overseas."
"If I go to college...." I muttered. I was sick of being across the ocean from everything, so I asked dad if I could come back home for college. He didn't know I had no plans of going to college.
"What?" Denise asked.
"Nothing" I smiled. "I'm heading to bed. I'm exhausted from my flight. We'll talk more tomorrow, huh?"
"OK, honey, We'll see you tomorrow." Dad hugged me and kissed my forehead. I hugged Denise and took my bags upstairs with me. I threw my suitcases on my bed. I quickly changed into my pajamas and started to unpack. My pictures were the last things to unpack. I looked at them all fondly. I placed the one of me and dad next to the one of me and mom, taken right before she died. Next I put up the picture of Denise and I from the wedding. Then the one of all of us, taken right after my 13th birthday. Two weeks before that Dad had adopted Alex, so he was a Taylor too. Then the one of Alex and I when Dad and Denise first met. Alex had always been a great playmate, although he was 2 years older then I. In the picture, Alex and I sat on a long bench swing, pushing each other. I always kept that one hidden at school, because most of the girls that had been in my hall were in love with Alex and his group. If they had known he was my brother, they would have bothered the hell out of me. I really wasn't hip to how big Alex was, because I was naive in most cultural ways. I knew it, and it had only started bothering me. In the airport, I was the only girl still wearing big hair, and early 90's clothes. The same as when I was 14. Starting tomorrow I'd be changing. A lot. I couldn't really sleep, so I found my journal from right before I left for school. I laughed to myself as I read how I used to gush about Nick. He had a big crush on me when Alex first started the whole band. All of Nicks fans would probably love to know that I was the first girl he kissed. All of the other guys just basically ignored me, except when they were teasing Nick. I closed the book, thinking about how they had all changed. They had to have changed, four years will change anyone. I know I had stopped talking to Nick 2 months before I left, and I cant help but wonder how he'll act towards me when I see him next. I soon drifted into a deep sleep.
It was 2 PM before I woke up. I went downstairs to find Denise but instead found a note.
Hey Sweetie. I went shopping, I'll be back later. Alex should be home at 330. I probably wont be home till 5. Roger said he'd be home late, so if you want, you and Alex can order pizza.
love you-Denise
I sighed. I grabbed a cookie and went to the patio leading into the huge backyard. The pool looked exactly the same, the trees looked exactly the same. "Don't change much of anything, do you Dad..." I mumbled as I turned back into the house. I went upstairs and grabbed a shower. I threw on a pair of baggy jeans and a baggy T-shirt, grabbed the cookies from the kitchen, and went back to my room to watch TV. After channel surfing for 15 minutes, I finally settled on a talk show. The show was pretty weird, but I must have got engrossed in it, because I didn't hear anything until their was a loud knock at my door.
"Come in." I said. I stood up as Alex entered the room.
"There's my little sister!!!!" He exclaimed. He hugged me tightly, and just as Denise had done, pushed me away to look at me.
"Just as the day you left." He joked. I laughed and punched his arm lightly.
"Not you, though. Have the Smurfs gained popularity?" I asked, looking at the blue hair. He smirked at me. I sat back down on my bed, and he took of his coat and sat next to me. He grabbed a cookie and smiled goofily at me. I looked at him skeptically. The blue hair was just the beginning of how weird he'd gotten. He was wearing his sunglasses still, and he had about 3 tattoos on the part of his arms I could see.
"So, I think we have a lot to catch up on......" he began. I turned off the TV, and Alex started yapping a mile a minute. It was 5 when he finished his story. We ordered the pizza since neither Dad nor Denise were home yet, and I told him all about school, and how lost I was with clothes and music and everything.
"You should go shopping. You can get into your trust fund now, spend it." Alex said scarfing another slice.
"That's a good idea. You want to come shopping with me?"
"Sure. You want to go tomorrow? Did Mom tell you that at the end of the week, I'm having a 'Welcome Home' party for you?"
"No....."
"Well, I am. And Nick is going to be there....." Alex teased. I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up, jerk! That was 4 years ago..."
"Whatever, Gin......" I was just about to retort when Denise came home.
"Kids??" She called up the stairs. Alex and I looked at each other and both jumped up and ran downstairs, wanting to get downstairs first. We always played that game when we had been younger. It's funny how we just fell back into it. I made it down first and gave Denise a hug and let out a triumphant squeal.
"Guess you didn't realize my legs are as long as your now, huh? I think I'm taller then you....." I teased Alex.
"You are not...How tall are you now?"
"5'8""
"I'm an inch taller."
"Ooooh, a whole inch!"
"Shut up Gin..."
"Shut up Der."
We both looked at Denise, who was practically in tears she was laughing so hard. "Just like the old days...." She said still laughing.
"So, Denise, Alex is gonna take me shopping tomorrow. He advised me to spend my entire trust fund."
Denise looked at Alex skeptically. "You're shopping with him? Look at his clothes!"
"You cant get any worse then what she is wearing now....."
"Anyway, we're shopping tomorrow. I need to go car shopping and makeup shopping too."
"All right, we are spending all of your money!" Alex exclaimed. The rest of the night was spent talking and planning. Alex would pick me up at 11 and we'd shop all day until I found all I needed. Alex went to his house, and I went to bed, excited I'd be starting my change tomorrow.
