Team Canada 1998 trip to Latin America took effect in January. Business and Government representatives visited Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. These four countries represent increasingly affluent markets with a combined population of 330 million and governments committed to the liberalization of trade and investment to accelerate the development of their economies.

Total Canadian foreign direct investment in these countries was approximately $20 billion in 1996.Team Canada 1998 participants to Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile, of which three quarters were small or medium-sized enterprises, brought back home an estimated $23.8 billion in business contracts.

This Mission built on the Mexico-Canada relationship, provided Canadian companies the opportunity and support to strike buisness deals and partnerships with Mexican firms. Mexico was one of the most productive countries for Team Canada this year.
