Chapter Programs and Activities

Graduate School Workshop
  • The purpose of this workshop was to inform student of the processes necessary to obtain graduate school admission. Our aim was to stimulate in students the desire to attain a graduate degree.

    Student Leaders Forum
  • The purpose of this forum was to stress to students the importance of getting involved, while keeping academic excellence in mind.

    Sista' to Sista' Discussion
  • This discussion was held in order for the women of color on campus to get together and discuss issues that we were facing at the time. This is an annual event that is held to give women the chance to discuss the relationships they have among themselves and other and to give them a chance to find solutions to any problems they may be having these relationships.

    Self Defense Workshop
  • This workshop is held in the support of women being able to defend themselves if ever needed. A student who was proficient in the martial arts gave a demonstration. He was able to show our attendees basic moves they could use in the event that they were ever attacked.

    Immunization Awareness Project (PROJECT S.M.A.R.T.)
  • This is a program that was done to inform the elderly in a Buffalo Senior Citizen Center about different places they could receive flu shots for the upcoming season.

    Bone Marrow Drive
  • This program was done in conjunction with American Red Cross, they had a great need for African-Americans to participate. They received the highest response from a University, here in Buffalo.

    Clinical Depression Information Session
  • This workshop was given in accordance with Summit V: Health and Healing Let it Begin Within Information was dispensed about the signs of clinical depression. Attendees were informed about where they could go to get help for themselves or others facing this epidemic.

    Adopt-A-Walkway
  • This is a beautification program done under the guidance of Buffalo State College. A section of the campus is designated to different organizations, and it is their responsibility to beautify that section of the campus.

    It's all about the Benjamins
  • This program was done as part of the requirement for the men participating in our Cutie Pie Pageant. The purpose of this workshop was to inform students of different means of getting financial aid. There was also information dispersed on what types of financial aid are available. Assistance was given on how to fill out certain forms, and what information is required for each.

    Poetry Nite
  • This program was given as a forum for artistic expression. Students that love to read poetry and those who wrote it were able to display their talents in an open forum.

    Kids Vote
  • This is a program that is designed to encourage and stress to kids the importance of voting. This is a program that is done under the whole entity "Kids Voting USA".

    Delta Dawn
  • This is a program that is designed to foster relationship between college women on campus in the format of a sleepover. The atmosphere is more relaxed than the atmosphere of a program that is held in the confines of a room on campus.

    Buffalo News Kids Day
  • Done under the instruction of the University at Buffalo's Office of Student Life, papers are sold on the streets of Buffalo that are solely related to children.

    YWCA Week Without Violence - '97-'98 & '98-'99
  • Under the guidance of the local Buffalo YWCA, Sorors went out to participate in the annual Week Without Violence festivities. Our goal was to provide stepping instruction to the kids in the program to provide an alternative to running the streets and coming in contact with violence.

    Adopt-A-Family
  • This is a program sponsored by the Buffalo Alumnae chapter of Delta. Our aim is to provide clothing and food for families that have been less fortunate than others. This donation is possible through the collection of food and clothes from the undergraduate chapter.

    Our Annual Cutie Pie Ball/Shelley A. Harte Scholarship
    This is a ball that encourages male participation in the activities of a female exclusive organization. The ball is also in the name of our Soror Shelley A. Harte who passed in 1989 of leukemia. A portion of the proceeds from the ball is donated to the Leukemia Society.

    How Much We've Lost; How Much We've Gained
  • This program was geared towards informing students of the rich history that exists in Africa. It noted the many contributions Africa has given to today's society.
