Santa Cruz has a temperate climate. The temperature may range from 51 – 75 throughout the day, with an average of 63.  Evenings are chilly and it is advisable to dress in “layers”.  You will probably need a jacket, sweater or warm wrap for the evening.

In general, Santa Cruz is a rather informal place and shorts and sportswear are the mainstay for daytime fun activities.  Some brave souls even swim in the ocean, but a wetsuit is recommended for surfing and other waterborne activities.  Rain is unlikely in August.
