"Locs for Life" is a website dedicated to providing information about the locing process before, during, and after. My personal natural hair expedition is in its fourth year. It has been a journey of growth (literally), challenges, and eligthenment.
I decided to loc my hair mainly because I liked the individuality of the style, not to mention that chemically processing (perms) my hair was making my once thick mane - break off, dry, and unattractive. I have a cousin who had been locing for awhile and started doing my research with her. I was fortunate to find a skilled natural hair care salon in Richmond. The talented stylists there provided me with a variety of hair style choices while I was growing the chemical out of my hair. Since I decided to "go natural" I haven't looked back and have relished each stage of growth involved in the locing process. People choose to loc for a variety of reasons - spiritual, fashion, individuality, cultural. For me, locs symbolize success, freedom, self-expression, and naturalness, they have become a declaration of determination to succeed in life on my own terms.
