WinAir Airlines

WinAir Airlines was founded in the fall of 1997 by Mr. Richard Winwood. The airline was a Salt Lake City, Utah based airline and started flying charters for the Utah Jazz basketball team as well as other sports teams using their first 737-200, N902WC. In the summer of 1998 WinAir announced that they would start scheduled passenger using Long Beach Airport(LGB) as their hub. I applied for the position of a ramp agent or otherwise known as a "ramp rat" or "bag smasher". I started working for them in September and on October 2,1998 we had our first scheduled passenger service flight that arrived from Salt Lake City at 7am. The fleet was made up of 4 737-200s, 2 new 737-300s and 3 737-400s which were leased from Pegasus Airlines of Turkey. Though SLC was the headquarters, LGB was used as the hub and from LGB WinAir flew to Las Vegas, Oakland and Sacramento.I ended working for WinAir for 8.5 months from start to finish which was October 2, 1998 to July 6, 1999. This was definetly one very fun place to work and I will never forget the experience. Check out the links below which have photos of the aircraft from the WinAir fleet. (Copyright Stephen Toernblom)
