HELPING EACH OTHER!!

BUREAU OF RECLAMATION.

The Mission.

In the interest of the American public
The mission of the Bureau of Reclamation,
is to manage, develop, and protect water and
related resources in an environmentally
and economically sound manner.

My purpose in doing this site is to show
some of the awesome things that has been
accomplished by the BOR.

Reclamation programs and projects in
17 Western States.

Formerly established in 1943 the
Lower Colorado Region encompasses parts of
five states that contribute water to,
or draw water from the Colorado River.
southern California; southern Nevada;
the southwest corner of Utah; most of
Arizona; and part of west-central
New Mexico.

Overflowing and spread out!
The Colorado River.

As you can see on the map, this is a long
and mighty river that needed to be harnessed.

This is one of the things that has been built,
to harness the river.

Towering Hoover Dam is 726 feet high.
Its curving crest is nearly a quarter of a mile
long and wide enough for four lanes of traffic.
The dam performs a threefold service; it checks
floods and saves the floodwaters for generating
power and for irrigating millions of acres
of dry land.
Hoover Dam can generate 1,835,000 horsepower
of electric energy.

The reservoir behind the dam is called
Lake Mead.

Lake Mead is 115 miles long, with a shore line
of 550 miles. The National Park Service
administers the lake and its shores as a
recreational area and wildlife preserve.

A part of the power Plant!

The huge Turbine!

He just keeps rolling along!

Looks calm and peaceful now!

More dams on the Colorado River.

The Davis Dam.

The Parker Dam.

Laguna Dam.

The Palo Verde.

All of these Dams have been built to help
make our country a better place to live!

Located in the southeastern corner of California
the Salton Sea covers a surface area of
376 square miles, making it the States largest lake.
The Sea's current elevation is about 227 feet
below mean sea level.
It's maximum depth reaches 51 feet and
its total volume is about 7.5 million acre-feet.

The Salton Sea Authority, along with the
U.S.Department of Interior's
Bureau of Reclamation, has begun efforts to maintain
the Sea as an agricultural drainage reservoir,
restore the wildlife resources and habitats,
stimulate recreational use, and provide an
enviromment for economic development.
