unveiled in Geelong (Region 7).

The channels listed above are
for the BEST CAD area. BEST stands for Bureau of Emergency
Services Telecommunications. the metropolitan channels are known as VICFIRE
channels or VF for short. These channels are used in the outer Melbourne
and Geelong suburbs that surround Port Phillip Bay. They all run on a
voting system a bit like the Police radio system.
All the BEST channels are run out of the CFA communications offices in East
Burwood.
In addition to the BEST channels, each region has either 3 or 4 simplex channels
to use.
These channels are listed below. They are used for fire ground traffic, so
when a unit arrives on
scene at a fire, generally they will all go to one of these channels. One
other thing about these
channels is that the BEST channel operators DO NOT talk on them, as they are
simplex only.
So if all the units are on the Simplex channels, a control unit will have a
radio still tuned in on a BEST channel so they can hear any messages from
VICFIRE.
