St. John Ambulance are often tasked with providing Emergency First Aid Services in times of Bushfires (and more), eg. The Esso Longford Fire, to the CFA/NRE and anyone else who requires first aid. This organization uses a variety of vehicles and carries a lot of equipment including
defibrillators, oxygen kits, advanced first aid kits and stretchers.  

There are approximately 80-100 divisions of St. John Ambulance around Victoria

 

They also have an extensive UHF and HF communications system.

The frequencies are below.

Ch. 1 - 470.150 (Repeater)
Ch. 2 - 470.400 (Repeater)
Ch. 3 - 469.525 (Simplex)
Ch. 4 - 470.975 (Repeater)
Ch. 5 - 470.000 (Repeater)
Ch. 6 - 472.150 (Simplex)

Ch. 7 - 472.200 (Simplex)
Ch. 11 - 470.150 (Simplex)
Ch. 12 - 470.400 (Simplex)
Ch. 13 - 469.525 (Simplex)
Ch. 14 - 470.975 (Simplex)
Ch. 15 - 470.000 (Simplex)
Ch.16 - 469.700 (Simplex Interstate Channel Only)

These frequencies are used State-wide (but not all areas have the 4 repeaters operational).

HF- 3716, 6902, 5140 & 2708 are all used on a Selcall system

St. John Ambulance maintain 6 communication centres across the state in Melbourne, Bendigo, Shepparton, Cobden, Mildura, Gippsland along with a Mobile Communications Unit (SJ1) which has access to the above frequencies, SMR, 2 meters & UHF CB etc.

Code 2 - Lights Flashing
Code 3 - Non-Urgent Response
Code 4 - Deceased Person
Code 5 - Police Required
Code 6 - Ambulance Service Required
Code 7 - Mobile to Duty/Incident/Location
Code 8 - Departed Duty/Incident/Location
Code 9 - Departed Duty/Incident/Location and Heading to Depot
Code 10 - Closing Down at Depot
