Blue and Yellow
Give the children little pieces of blue and yellow cellophane so they can understand how green is made.  Or demonstrate with drops of food coloring in a jar of water.  Try making other color combinations!

Play Dress-Up!
Dress in clothes that are the color of the day or place clothing in the prop box associated with that color.

Playdough
Playdough (recipes) is  a great medium for colors.  Set it out in the color of the day.  Put old playdough (in other colors) out as well, asks the kids to choose two different colors....and mix them together with their hands.  What color did it make?

Take a Walk!
Go on a color walk - try to find as many things as you can matching the color of the day. 

Color Mixing with Paint
Experiment with tints and shades by adding white or black paint.  Paint a picture with the new colors!

Spaghetti Painting
Dip cooked spaghetti in the desired color of paint and let it "wiggle" across the paper 

Cut It Out!
Make a large collage with the kids.  Find and cut out pictures in magazines that are the color of the day.

String It Along
String the desired color of buttons, beads or dyed pasta shapes (See:  Craft Recipes)

Ice Sculptures 
Fill milk cartons with water (tinted with the desired color of food coloring) to make ice sculptures in the water table. 

Sandy Rice or Ricey Sand!
Tint rice with the desired color of food coloring to use for sandbox play. 

Handprints
To help children learn the concept of mixing colors.  Dip each child's hand in yellow tempera paint...and the other in blue tempera paint.  They can make a handprint with each hand.  Then ask them to rub their hands together.  What color does it make?  Make some more prints!  Vary the colors to introduce new color combinations:  red & yellow (orange); blue & red (purple)..etc.  They can do this project with a buddy too.  Have each pair dip their hands in a different color and rub hands with each other!

Give each child 3 spoonfuls of icing on their plates.  Place a drop of different coloring on each spoonful.   They can experiment  mixing the colors together with their pretzel sticks. They can sample their colorful creations and create new and interesting color by mixing together.  Add mini muffins or cupcakes for a fun snack!

Spotted Animals
Draw or copy an outline of an animal (from a coloring book) on yellow construction paper.  With "blue" bingo dabbers,  ask them to put "spots" on the animals!  Magic!  The spots turn GREEN!  Try other color combinations: (red paper/blue dabber = purple spots; yellow paper/red dabber = orange spots.....)

Science Experiment with Colors
Place a palm size dollop of shaving cream into the ziploc bag; add a few drops of blue and yellow food coloring.  Zip up the bag, removing all the air you can before sealing.  The kids can "knead" the bag to mix the colors - yellow and blue make Green!  Try different color combinations.

Recipes

Colorful Devilled Egg 'Wiches
Make your favorite deviled egg sandwich filling.  Add a few drops of the desired color of food coloring.  Spread on crackers for a colorful snack or make colorful sandwiches!

For Colorful Rice - add a few drops of food coloring to the water before you add the rice.  Serve as is or add your favorite ingredients to it!

Green Eggs & Ham (Read the book by Dr. Seuss to accompany this meal!)

1-2 tablespoons of butter or margarine
4 slices of ham
8 eggs
2 tablespoons of milk 
1-2 drops of green food coloring 
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of pepper 

Melt a teaspoon of butter in a large frying pan over medium heat.  Add sliced ham and brown until edges are slightly crisp. Remove the ham from the pan,  cover with aluminum foil, and set aside. In a medium-size mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Beat with a whisk until frothy. Then add 1-2 drops of green food coloring until you reach the desired shade of green.  Heat a tablespoon of butter or margarine in a large frying pan over medium heat until the butter begins to sizzle.   Then add the egg mixture to the pan. Stir the egg mixture with a spatula until the eggs are firm and not too runny.   Transfer the eggs to individual plates.  Garnish with a sprig of parsley. Add the ham prepared earlier. Serve with toast or warm rolls.  Serves 4. 

Green Slime

1 32 oz. container of plain yogurt 
1 20 oz. can pinapple with juice
1 3 oz.  box instant pistachio pudding 

Mix all ingredients until well blended (don't use the blender). Refrigerate in individual bowls or dishes until set.
